Another awesome evening reception in one of my favourite Cambridgeshire barns, Sam and Ben’s party will be another one to remember!
It’s just 6 week’s since I was last at Burleigh Hill Farm Barn for Emily & Chris’s big night in July. Regular readers will know that I absolutely LOVE this venue, it’s rural surroundings and the fact that it’s so customisable to suit the tastes of the couple using it.
Sam & Ben’s wedding was no exception. With lanterns suspended from the rafters and a true rustic theme, we spent the evening in the main barn rather than taking the party to the bigger space at the back of the venue.
I have to admit, I love working in this end of the barn. It looks gorgeous!
So, being in a barn with a truly rustic theme….the rustic booth it is then!
As an added bonus, Sam & Ben had hung a neon heart right behind where I was to set up – I might have to get one of these for myself!
I arrived as the guests were enjoying the wedding breakfast as things were running around an hour late on the timings front. That happens regularly at weddings and it really doesn’t matter if your timings stray from those that you’d originally planned.
Formalities finally over, the guests disappeared outside to a fire engine converted into a mobile bar, leaving me to set up the equipment for the evening. Space was a little tight, and the photographer had certain ideas of photos he wanted to take, meaning most of my equipment was placed tight against the walls of the building to avoid it being in shot.
And so to the evening party!
There were very few rules for this particular reception and certainly no pre-planned playlists. My brief was to play 70s disco, 80s rock and pop and 90s Indie, but absolutely no R Kelly or Michael Jackson….no problem!
First dance dispatched along with a white confetti cannon and we’re off and running, or at least of a couple of songs. It was a nice evening outside the barn and the lure of the outside bar was too strong, leaving me alone in the barn for the first 45 minutes whilst guests bopped along outside where I couldn’t see them.
Finally, they started to come back inside as it cooled, and the party got properly started. Lots of requests, lots of dancing and a really good time for Sam & Ben, their guests and indeed yours truly.
The end of the evening came around far too quickly and after the traditional “one more DJ” request, it was time for the guests to meet the massive queue of waiting taxis in the farm yard and leave me to clear away.
Some photos of the evening
As always, here’s a few shots of the evening’s action on the dance floor
And to the playlist
