It’s a couple of weeks since my last wedding of the season, and the numbers have been crunched, adjudicated, and a recount ordered!
Every year, I publish the tracks that my wedding couples have selected for their First Dance song.
It can be a big decision (I know several have agonised over it this year!). Do you go slow and soppy, or straight in for a full on party? Do you choose a song which means something to you as a couple, or something which will please your assembled guests?
2019 has been a little....different!
Previous years have seen a certain Mr Sheeran’s “Perfect” absolutely dominate the charts (until this year, it was played at most weddings!).
2019 though has seen a shift into more….well, different selections.
In fact, it’s been rare to play the same first dance song twice! And from my side of the decks…that’s refreshing 🙂
First dance song selections seem to be going back to their roots!
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with Ed Sheeran, or even Aerosmith (still a popular choice).
But, it’s nice to see couples choosing a song for their first dance which really means something to them as a couple.
When I meet with my couples, I always ask the reason behind the selection of their first dance track. Some of those reasons have been real tear-jerking moments. Others have been deep and full of meaning (the George Michael track below is one example!).
So, I hear you ask. What DID couples choose for their First Dance in 2019?
The list is below!
Ed Sheeran (unsurprisingly) took the top slot for the third year in a row, but only just.
Aerosmith’s “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” is still high in the selections along with John Legend’s “All Of Me”
I’ll update this post in due-course with what’s been selected nationally, because there are massive regional differences in music tastes!
So, without further ado and waffling, and in no particular order, here’s what’s been selected for MY couples for their First Dance in 2019
- Ed Sheeran - Perfect
- Aerosmith - Don't Want To Miss a Thing
- John Legend - All Of Me
- Queen - Don't Stop Me Now (a good choice if you want your guests to join you early on!)
- Young & Beautiful - Lana Del Rey
- Purpose - Justin Beiber
- Rule The World - Take That
- We’ve Only Just Begun - The Carpenters
- Heavenly Day - Patti Griffin
- I Love How You Love Me - The Paris Sisters
- Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
- Different Corners - George Michael
- Don’t Make My Brown Eyes Blue - Crystal Gayle
- I Won’t Give Up - Jason Mraz
- Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison
What's YOUR First Dance song?
As you can see, this year’s First Dance songs for me have been very wide and varied!
You don’t have to follow the herd – the more unique your First Dance is…the better!
Do you want slow and slushy, or something a lot more upbeat (your first dane doesn’t have to be slow!). In fact, you don’t have to do a first dance at all if you don’t want to!
